Toni Smith, Former Board Chair
Prior to joining ESC, Toni spent 30 years as a consultant with Spencer Stuart, a leading international executive search firm. For the last 15 years of her tenure there she was the partner in charge of its practice with not-for-profit clients. Toni helped to recruit numerous CEOs to serve Chicago institutions including the Field Museum of Natural History, WEBZ, Adler Planetarium, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
Toni has served as an active consultant and is past Board Chair of ESC. Some of her ESC clients include: Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Muntu Dance Theatre of Chicago, Jones Memorial Community Center, and International Women’s Associates. Toni has completed ESC training in Consulting, Strategic Planning, Coaching, Team Development, Executive Transition, Emergency Leadership Planning, Coaching Skills for Consultants, Facilitating Small Workgroups, and Leadership Transition, a course she facilitates for her peers. She helped pioneer many of ESC’s Leadership Transition programs.
Toni is a board member and past-chair of One Hope United, a board member of Associated Colleges of Illinois, and a docent and former Visiting Committee member of the Oriental Institute at the University of Chicago. She previously served as a Board member of The Chicago Network, the Chicago Botanic Garden, FEI Behavioral Health, and on the initial Advisory Council of the Center for Nonprofit Executive Education at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
